Now That Is How You Debate!

Thursday night, Rajai Davis (Hornell '00) jumped into ESPN Sportscenter's "Top 10 Plays." Davis, playing for the San Franscisco Giants, made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Atlanta's Andruw Jones of a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. San Francisco won the game, 9-3, at Turner Field to avoid a three-game series sweep.

The highlight of Davis' catch can be found on his Giants player bio. It's under Davis' catch at the wall. Click on the 400K link, you'll need a faster-type connection.

http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=434658

PS - Davis slammed his first Major League home run on Friday night against the Florida Marlins. It was a two-run home run in a Giants, 3-0, win at Dolphins Stadium (or whatever they're calling it now). In 42 games between the Pirates and Giants this season, Davis is batting .320 with one home run and six RBI.

Carlson (GF '04) and Wells (Saratoga '04) Lead AL Affiliates To Win In New York-Penn League All-Star Game

FISHKILL, N.Y. - Chris Carlson (Glens Falls '04) smashed a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning as the American League all-stars rallied to defeat the National League all-stars, 6-4, in the 2007 New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Dutchess County Stadium. The game pitted all-star teams from American League and National League affiliates in the New York-Penn League against one another.

The American League all-stars rallied back from an early, 4-0, deficit and took the lead, 5-4, in the eighth inning with a trio of runs, punctuated by Carlson's RBI single to left field off Tri-City Valley Cats reliever Jason Dominguez. Casper Wells (Saratoga '04), Carlson's Oneonta Tigers teammate, had tied the game earlier in the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Carlson played the entire game for the American League all-stars as the designated hitter and was selected as the Player of the Game. He finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and he was hit by a pitch. Wells entered the game in the sixth inning and played right field. At the plate, he was 0-for-1 with one RBI.

For the National League all-stars, Matt Bouchard (Plattsburgh '05) started at shorstop and played the first five innings. At the plate, Bouchard was 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits.

NOTES: Carlson also competed in the Home Run Derby; he did not make the finals but smashed four home runs out of Dutchess County Stadium...Carlson leads the NY-P with nine home runs....Carlson, Wells and Bouchard were all NYCBL postseason all-stars; Carlson was a first-team selection in 2004, Wells was a second-team selection in 2004 and Bouchard was a second-team honoree in 2005.

Three NYCBL Grads Named To NY-Penn League All-Star Game, Game On TV/Internet Tonight!!

Three graduates of the New York Collegiate Baseball League have been named to the 2007 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. The game will be held TONIGHT at Dutchess County Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y.

**UPDATE**
If you live in the Syracuse area or get Time Warner Sports, you can watch the game live tonight. The broadcast begins at 7:30 PM EDT. Or, there's a live Internet-only broadcast on SportsJuice (
www.SportsJuice.com) and that starts at 6:45 PM. Sean Ford, the voice of the Hudson Valley Renegades, will provide the play-by-play.

Because there are three divisions in the New York-Penn League, the game will pit the all-stars from American League affiliates against the all-stars from National League affiliates.

Chris Carlson (Glens Falls '04) and Casper Wells (Saratoga '04) will compete for the American League affiliates team. Carlson and Wells both play for the Oneonta Tigers.

Matthew Bouchard (Plattsburgh '05) is set to play for the National League affiliates team. Bouchard is a shortstop with the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Jeremy Hall (GF '04) Named Appy League Pitcher of Week

Jeremy Hall (Glens Falls '04) has been selected as the Appalachian League "Pitcher of the Week," for the week ending August 12. Hall pitches for the Princeton Devil Rays.

Last week, Hall threw 13 shutout innings in two starts and fanned 14 batters. The worst news of the week for Hall was a pair of no decisions. He allowed just nine hits and walked only one. Last Monday, the former Glens Falls hurler blanked Danville with a four-hit shutout through six innings and struck out eight. Princeton won the game, 7-6. This past Saturday, Hall tossed seven scoreless frames against Johnson City, allowed five hits and struck out six.

This season, Hall is 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA in 10 starts. He has 47 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings pitched.

In 2004, the Gray, Tenn., native was a second team NYCBL all-star with the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. He helped the Golden Eagles to a 31-10 record and the franchise's first Eastern Division regular season championship.

During the spring of 2006, Hall, pitching for East Tennesee State, suffered a college-career ending eye injury. He was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 27th round (815th overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft but never signed. This spring, Hall signed a free-agent contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Prior to reporting to Princeton (WV), he spent three months at extended spring training.

Michael Parker (Amsterdam '04) Named Appalachian League Hitter of Week

Earlier this month, NYCBL graduate Michael Parker (Amsterdam '04) was named the Appalachian League's "Hitter of the Week" for the week ending August 5. Parker plays for the Kingsport Mets.

For the week, Parker batted .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs and five RBI. Parker walked seven times, scored six runs and recorded an .887 slugging percentage. He recorded at least one hit in five of the Mets six games and twice went 2-for-3 with a home run. The 22-year-old slammed a solo home run against Burlington on Tuesday and then clouted a two-run blast on Saturday, August 4, against the Bristol Sox.

Through Monday night, Parker was batting .310 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 28 games for the Mets. The Glenmont, N.Y., native is second on the team in batting average and third in OPS (.838).

In the NYCBL, Parker played for the league champion Amsterdam Mohawks. Amsterdam defeated Hornell, two games to none, in the NYCBL Championship Series. The former Mohawk had a stellar career at George Washington University and, as a senior, he was named a third-team Louisville Slugger All-American and first-team All-Atlantic 10.

Parker was selected by the New York Mets in the 24th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball entry draft.

Great Stories Of 2007

Well, the 2007 NYCBL season is in the books. As I collect my thoughts over the next few days, I figured I'd open up the floor to you, the fans, to tell me what you'll remember most about the season.

After the league all-stars are announced later this week, I'll see if I can put my thoughts on the season to the keyboard.
