Amsterdam Mohawks Thursday Night Meet and Greet, Saturday Opening Night Fireworks

The Amsterdam Mohawks will have a "Meet and Greet" with the players on Thursday night from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, N.Y. Pictures and autographs with the players will be available as well as souvenirs and season tickets. Free hot dogs will also be served.

On Saturday night, the Mohawks will play their home opener against the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Game time is 7:05 PM and a spectacular fireworks showsponsored by McDonalds will take place after the game.A crowd of approximately 1500-2000 is expected.

The Mohawks will be led by pitchers Ryan Byrd (LSU), Eric Beaulac (LeMoyne), and Cory Bannister (Stanford). Byrd was one of LSU's top pitchers this past spring while Beaulac, a Troy, N.Y., native, was throwing as hard as 94 miles per hourt his past spring at LeMoyne. Bannister was a freshman at Stanford this past spring and is the son of former Major League All-Star Floyd Bannister and brother of current Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Brian Bannister.

Offensively, the Mohawks will be led by Chris Garcia (St. Petersburg), a former Boston Red Sox draft pick and Nate Lape (Marshall). Garcia, from St. Petersburg CC is expected to be taken in this year's draft as well, while Lape just completed his sophomore season at Marshall University.He attended North Carolina as a freshman before transferring and he is also expected to be a high draft pick in the 2008 draft.
