The Russians Are Coming!!!
The Saratoga Phillies, of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, have announced that they have scheduled an exhibition game against the Russian national baseball team. The game will be played on Monday, May 23, at East Side Recreation Park in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The Russian national team will be touring the eastern United States from July 15 through August 19 in preparation of the 2008 European Olympic qualifier that begins on September 7 in Barcelona, Spain. Aside from the Saratoga Phillies, the Russians will play exhibition games against teams from the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) and the Coastal Plain League. The tour schedule is still being finalized.
“This is going to be a very exciting event and experience for our community,” Phillies managing partner Keith Rogers told The Saratogian. “To see some of the best players in the world representing Russia come to Saratoga to play against our collegiate team is pretty cool.”
The Russians tour will be sponsored by Russian International Baseball (RIB). According to the company’s web site, “RIB is an American-based organization that assists Russia in the areas of developing and advancing their baseball programs through coaching, clinics, equipment, marketing and sponsorships.” Russian International Baseball works directly with the Russian Olympic Committee and the Russian Baseball Federation.
In the autumn of 1986, the Soviet Olympic Committee declared baseball an official sport in the Soviet Union with the goal of winning gold medals in the Summer Olympic Games. The Russians (formerly the Soviet Union) have never qualified for the Olympics in baseball.

Yankees Field On Hold, Will Play At Three Different Sites In 2007

The Webster Yankees were scheduled to play their 2007 home schedule in a brand-new ballpark located in Webster’s Empire Park. However, construction difficulties, including poor weather and environmental concerns have slowed the park’s progress. Unfortunately, the new field will not be ready in time for the 2007 season.
Three different sites will host the Webster Yankees this summer. A majority of the Yankees home games will be played at St. John Fisher’s Dugan Yard, located in Pittsford, New York. Dugan Yard hosted the entire home schedule for the 2004 Genesee Valley Riverbats. Other home games will be played at Monroe Community College in Rochester and RL Thomas School in Webster. The Yankees, under the name, Rochester Royals, played their home games at Monroe Community College last year.

The Bennington Bombers have reached an agreement to play their 2007 home schedule at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Vermont.
Originally, the Bombers planned to play at a newly-constructed stadium in Bennington located near Grace Christian School. However, construction difficulties and unforeseen costs put the project on hold and forced the Bombers to look for a new place to play.

Bleacher seating, according to the Bombers web site, will hold around 500 fans. There will be space available for lawn chair and blanket seating to possibly accommodate up to 2,000.
